Kunugi's Life is a Mess! is a roguelike, turn-based dungeon-crawling RPG centered on strategic combat and progression. You take on the role of Kunugi, a homeless girl determined to exact revenge on the bully responsible for her downfall. After her target mysteriously disappears into a strange White Door, Kunugi pursues him into a bizarre, lawless space where humans can gain extraordinary power.

The core gameplay loop emphasizes strategic decision-making. Before each dungeon run, you select which skills to learn, items to use, and equipment to equip. Each run resets your level to 1, requiring you to grow as powerful as possible before confronting the boss. The game features dialogue options that provide varying rewards—buffs, debuffs, items, or level-ups depending on your choices. Between runs, you can revisit dungeons to farm resources and currency to bolster your progression. After completing the initial dungeon, you unlock a challenging boss remnant battle for those seeking greater difficulty.
